About the State of Costs Project

About the State of Costs Project

Health care costs in our state are rising more every year, and North Carolinians feel it through higher insurance rates. They also feel the uncertainty surrounding potential changes to health care reform and how it could affect their care and costs.

That’s why Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) developed StateofCosts.com. It is designed to help North Carolinians gain a better understanding of the key drivers of medical costs and what BCBSNC is doing to help control them. We also cover things you can do to help control your own medical costs.

How the site is set up

We’ve organized StateOfCosts.com by highlighting some of the main cost drivers responsible for runaway medical costs:

  • Prescription drugs
  • Hospital costs
  • Regulations
  • Lifestyles
  • Lack of cost transparency

Each section includes national and North Carolina-specific information. Over time, the site will include region-specific data that will enable readers to discover some of the top health care cost drivers where they live.

There are multiple ways to delve into content. Simple infographics and “listified” content offer high-level, at-a-glance views of cost drivers. More in-depth articles enable you to gain a deeper understanding of the issues. You can also click over to the BCBSNC blog to learn even more about key health care cost issues.

We invite your input. No registration necessary.

You’re an active member of the health care system, and your thoughts matter. Start exploring the site and you’ll be able to:

  • Vote in instant polls — and see how your reactions match with others.
  • Share content from the site on your social networks.

We hope we hear from you. With the pending debate on health care reform, your thoughts and comments contribute to our ongoing effort to make sure controlling rising health care costs is a focal point of all reform discussions.
